A simple, stage-by-stage plan to roll SATs Goals! out across your Year 6 class — with timings, owners and a printable checklist so nothing falls through the cracks.
A five-minute prep step makes the rest of onboarding effortless.
Use a shared inbox like [email protected] so any teacher in the team can sign in — not a personal address.
Open a spreadsheet column with each pupil's first name and class (e.g. 6A, 6B). You'll paste this in during step 3.
Pick a 4-digit PIN that staff will remember but pupils won't guess. It locks the dashboard on shared devices.
Ask IT to whitelist https://satstars.uk so the app loads on classroom devices and tablets.
Five short tasks across five days. Total staff time: roughly 30 minutes.
~5 mins. Visit Sign Up, choose School, enter your school name and the shared staff email. Confirm via the verification email.
~5 mins. From the Teacher Dashboard, set your 4-digit Teacher PIN and confirm your school name. Have a quick look around the Pupils, Reports and Leaderboard tabs.
~5 mins. Open the Pupils tab and paste your class list (one pupil per line, name and class separated by a comma). All profiles are created instantly.
~10 mins. Sit with one pupil and walk through picking their name, choosing a topic, completing a quiz and earning XP. Resolve any device or filter issues now — not on launch day.
~10 mins of lesson time. Show pupils how to pick their name and pick a topic. Run a 5-minute Speed Round so everyone earns their first stars on day one.
Tick off each item as you go. Print this section or copy it into your team's planning doc.
satstars.uk whitelisted on the school networkSchools that see the strongest progress run SATs Goals! in short, regular bursts rather than long one-off sessions.
Run a 5-minute Speed Round on times tables or arithmetic at the start of every maths lesson.
Pick the topic you've just taught — fronted adverbials, fractions, place value — and set a 10-minute focused quiz to consolidate.
Set aside 10 minutes a week for pupils to clear down their stored wrong answers. Watch the gaps close.
Display the class leaderboard at the end of the week — XP, stars, accuracy and streaks. Praise effort, not just rank.
Encourage pupils to keep their daily streak going at home — a 5-minute quiz is enough to maintain it.
Open the Reports tab once a week. Spot pupils who haven't logged in and topics where the class average is lowest.
Almost always a web filter. Ask IT to whitelist https://satstars.uk. Test on a single device before rolling out to the class.
Confirm they were added in the Pupils tab and assigned to the correct class. Refresh the browser — newly-added pupils appear instantly.
Add an initial after the name (e.g. Alex H, Alex T) when bulk-adding. You can rename at any time without losing progress.
The free tier covers your first 5 pupils. Pick a paid plan that fits your class size on the pricing page, or request a 30-day trial code.
Sign in with the staff email and password and reset the PIN from Settings. The PIN is never required for the email-and-password login.
We onboard schools every week — if you'd like us to help with bulk imports, a trial activation code or bespoke pricing for a multi-academy trust, just ask.
5 pupils free, no card required. The whole rollout takes about 30 minutes of staff time.
